The prolonged use of Sumig can cause toxicity in melanin rich tissues. Sumatriptan should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Sumatriptan gets excreted in to breast milk. Avoiding breastfeeding for 12 hours after treatment with Sumatriptan can minimize infant exposure to Sumatriptan. Sumatriptan should not be given to pediatric patients. The use of Sumig is contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, ischemic cardiac, cerebrovascular, or peripheral vascular syndromes. Sumig should not be administered to patients with hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
