The use of Tetracycline in pregnancy, infancy and children below 8 years can cause yellow permanent discoloration of teeth. Sumycin should not be used in pregnancy as it can cause fetal damage. The concomitant use of Tetracycline and methylflurane can cause fetal renal toxicity.

What are the common dosages of Tetracycline / Generic of Sumycin?

The recommended starting dosage of Tetracycline is 500mg twice daily or 250mg four times daily. Sumycin therapy should be continued for at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms subside. The maximum dosage in adults is 1 to 2 gram. In pediatric patients (above 8 years of age) the recommended dosage is 25 to 50mg/kg of body weight.
