Cefixime

Cefixime is a prescription antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections like:

  • Infections of the airway tubes leading to the lungs known as bronchitis
  • Infections of the ear (otitis media)
  • Pneumonia caused by susceptible bacteria
  • Strep throat
  • Laryngitis
  • Lyme disease
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

It is also used for treating

  • gonorrhea
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Cefixime is a third generation cephalosporin. It works by killing the bacteria. It interferes with the formation of the bacterial cell wall. This allows holes to appear in the wall thus killing the bacteria.

Why Buy Cefixime?

Cefixime is a long-acting antibiotic. In the US, Cefixime is a second-line treatment for gonorrhea. It is FDA-approved for medical uses since 1989. It is even listed on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Cefixime is one of the safest and effective medicines needed in the health system. It is suitable for children adults and even pregnant women.

How to Take Cefixime?

Your dose and the duration of your treatment is based on the following:

  • The type of infection you have
  • Your age
  • Your kidney functions

The typical dose of Cefixime is 400 mg once a day or 200 mg twice a day for 7 to 14 days. For pediatric patients, the dose is 8 mg per body kg once a day or 4 mg per body kg twice a day.

Take Cefixime regularly at an evenly spaced time. You can take it with or without food. If you forget to take your dose, take it as soon as you remember. As with all antibiotics, it is vital to finish the entire course of treatment. Do not take more or less than what is prescribed to you. If you are taking the tablet form, do not chew or crush the tablet. Swallow it whole with plenty of water. If you are giving the suspension form, shake the bottle well before each use. Use only the special measuring cup or spoon to get the correct dose.

Things to Remember

  • Do not use Cefixime if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin.
  • If you experience severe diarrhea see you doctor as soon as possible.
  • Cefixime is not suitable for babies under 6 months of age.
  • Cefixime may interact with other medicines. Before you will take this medicine, tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications including those bought over-the-counter.
