How does Rosuvastatin work?

Rosuvastatin belongs to the class of medication called statins. It is also known as HMG- CoA reductase inhibitors. It is an enzyme that produces cholesterol in livers. The drug blocks the pathway for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Most of the circulating cholesterol comes from internal Synthesis by the liver.

It is also believed that the drug seeks to compensate by producing LDL receptors to throw cholesterol out of the circulation. LDL receptors bind to LDL and VLDL particle (bad cholesterol) in the liver and they are reprocessed into bile salts and other by-products. Studies show that statin prevents CVD due to four reasons.
