Doxazosin

Doxazosin is a prescription drug indicated for lowering the blood pressure (hypertension). It is also prescribed for relieving the symptoms of an enlarged prostate gland also known as BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Symptoms of BPH include painful urination, difficulty urinating and urinary urgency or frequency.

Doxazosin is used alone or in combination with other medicines in treating high blood pressure. It works by blocking the alpha receptor in the body. Alpha receptors are responsible for the narrowing of the blood vessels which causes the heart to pump blood hard. This increases the blood pressure and strain to the heart muscles. Lowering the blood pressure helps prevent heart attack, stroke and kidney problems.

Alpha receptors are also found on the prostate gland. This gland often enlarges, pressing down the urethra causing an obstruction in the flow of the urine. Blocking the alpha receptors helps relaxes the blood vessels allowing blood to flow freely. It helps relaxes the muscles in the prostate gland. This helps relieve the pressure allowing the urine to flow freely.

Why Buy Doxazosin?

Doxazosin is a long-acting competitive alpha 1 selective adrenergic blocker. It is an effective anti-hyperactive medication that’s available as generic and brand versions. It comes under various brand names but at a higher cost. The generic version is a lot cheaper than the brand names.

How to Take Doxazosin?

The recommended dose is one tablet a day. Take your dose before bedtime at the same time each day. If you are taking the modified-release tablet, it will likely make you less dizzy. You can take your medication with or without food with a glass of water. For a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember.

Things to Remember

  • Doxazosin will not cure high blood pressure or your enlarged prostate so you need to take them on a long-term basis.
  • Do not stop using Doxazosin unless you inform your doctor. Stopping your medication abruptly may cause a sudden increase in your blood pressure.
  • This medication may cause fainting or dizziness when you first take it. Be careful in doing activities that require mental alertness like driving or operating machinery.
  • If you are taking other medications for high blood pressure and diuretics inform your doctor.
  • You may feel dizzy when you first wake up. Be careful when sitting or standing up from a lying position.
  • In case of serious side effects like allergic reactions and passing out, seek medical help right away.
