Fexofenadine

Fexofenadine is a second-generation oral antihistamine. It is used to help relieve the signs and symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis such as;

  • Runny, watery and itchy nose
  • Body itching
  • Sneezing
  • Itching of the nose, throat and roof of the mouth

Fexofenadine is also used to relieve the symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria or hives in adults and children 6 months and older. It works by blocking the effects of histamine in the body. Histamine is a natural chemical responsible for allergic signs and symptoms. It blocks the H1 receptor thus preventing it from activating.

Why Buy Fexofenadine?

Fexofenadine is the same active ingredient found in the brand name Allegra. However, the generic Fexofenadine is a lot cheaper compared with the brand name Allegra. It is FDA approved over-the-counter in the United States since 2011 but children with hives still need to have a prescription. Unlike the first generation of histamines, this medication does not readily enter the brain. Therefore, it is non-sedating and causes less drowsiness.

How to Take Fexofenadine?

Fexofenadine comes in a tablet and suspension liquid that you need to take orally. The usual recommended dose for children 2 to 11 years of age in treating hives and seasonal allergies is 30 mg twice a day. The dose for children 6 months to 2 years of age is 15 mg two times a day. If you are taking over-the-counter Fexofenadine, read the direction that comes with the package.

Take it exactly as written in the package or as directed by the physician. Take the medication with water with or without food. For the rapid-dissolving tablet, take it on an empty stomach. Allow it first to dissolve in the tongue before swallowing with or without water.
