Levosiz

Levosiz is a prescription medication it’s active ingredient is levocetirizine. It is an antihistamine that helps reduces the effects of histamine, a natural chemical in the body that causes an allergic reaction when it reacts to an allergen. Levosiz is prescribed to treat the symptoms of:

  • Year-round allergies (perennial) and seasonal in children at least 6 months old
  • Swelling and itching due to chronic urticaria or hives in children at least 6 months old. Symptoms of hives may include swollen, itchy skin with red patches.

It may also be used for other purposes as determined by your physician. This medication works by blocking the release of histamines from the body cells. This help relieves the symptoms of allergies like:

  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Water, red and itchy eyes
  • Red patches on the skin
  • Swollen itchy skin
  • Difficulty breathing

However, Levosiz does not prevent and treat severe allergic reaction like anaphylaxis. Do not use this medication in place of Epinephrine.

How to Take Levosiz?

Take this medication in the evening before going to bed. For children 6 to 11 years of age, take 5 ml once a day in the evening. Give 2.5ml for children 6 months to 5 years of age.

Seasonal and Year-round Allergies

The typical dose for adult ages 18 to 64 years of age is 5mg once a day. Take it in the evening before bedtime. The usual dose for children 12 to 17 years of age is 5mg before bedtime. Children ages 6 to 11 years old should take 2.5mg once a day.

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your physician. Take the medication orally with a glass of water. Do not take more than what is recommended or longer than the required duration. Do not double up your dose for the missed one. Skipped the missed dose and continue taking the next dose as usual,

Things to Remember

  • Do not take Levosiz if you are allergic to cetirizine and other antihistamines.
  • Patients suffering from kidney failure should take this medication at a lower dose.
  • This product is not suitable for breastfeeding mother.
