Oxcarbazepine

Oxcarbazepine is an anticonvulsant medication. It is used for the treatment of conditions like:

  • Temporal lobe epilepsy
  • Complex partial seizures
  • Generalized seizures
  • Simple partial seizure
  • Tonic-clonic seizure

It is sometimes prescribed off-label to treat:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Migraines
  • A type of facial pain
  • Sexual function
  • Pain due to nerve damage

Oxcarbazepine is an analog of Oxcarbazepine. The exact way this drug work remains unknown. However, it is believed that it blocks the sodium channels in the brain in order to prevent seizures.

Why Buy Oxcarbazepine?

Oxcarbazepine is approved by the U.S FDA to treat seizures and epilepsy in both adults and children. It is less toxic and has lesser drug interaction because it does not produce epoxide metabolite.

It’s available as generic and brand names like Trileptal or Oxtellar. The generic version is a lot cheaper than the brand names. They only differ in packaging and pricing but both have the same mechanism of action.

How to Take Oxcarbazepine?

Take Oxcarbazepine exactly as directed by your physician. Like most seizure drugs, the usual initial dose should be low.

Adult: The recommended dose for adult patients is 600mg to 1200 mg a day in two divided doses. The dose for an adult patient who uses this with other seizure drugs is 1200mg to 2400 mg a day.

Children: The dose for children is based on their weight. The starting dose is 8 to 10 mg per kg. Take Oxcarbazepine twice a day. Slowly increase the dose over 2 to 4 weeks to the recommended dose.

For the liquid form, shake the bottle well to mix the medicine evenly. Take it two times a day with or without food. Use only the special measuring spoon and not the regular spoon.
