The solutions is thought to work locally in the eyes as a partial modulator of the immune system. A lymphocyte is a type of white blood cell of the immune system. A condition may occur where these cells may die and accumulate in the tear glands. Cyclosporine can reserve this condition and lead to increase in tear production. The treatment may take 3 to 6 months to shows increase in tears production.

How to use the ophthalmic Cyclosporine?

Cyclosporine is available in the form of an ophthalmic solution of 3 ml bottles (strength 0.05%).

  • General Dose: – One drop of the above solution two times a day in each eye at a difference of 12 hours.
  • Children: – Safety and efficiency not established in the age group below 16 years.

Comments:

  • It can be used with artificial tears allowing a 15-minute interval between products.
  • Use the drop at around the same times every day.
  • It comes in small bottles to be used for one dose.
  • Close your eyes for 2 minutes after installation.

What are the precautions in using Cyclosporine?

  1. Some important instruction has to be followed while using cyclosporine. Inform or ask your doctor if you are/ have.
  • Eye infection.
  • Punctal plug in your eye.
  • Herpes infection of the eye.
  • Pregnant.
  • Breastfeeding.
  • Allergic to Cyclosporine or any other medicine.
  1. Remove your contact lenses before installing Cyclosporine. Put them back 15 minutes later.
  2. Don’t use in a patient younger than 16 years of age.
  3. Close your eyes for 2 minutes.
  4. Inform your doctor about other drugs you take or other eye drops to avoid drugs interaction.
  5. Your eyes may sting or burn for a short time. It is normal. Inform your doctor if the condition persists for a long time.
