Usage of Amcinonide

Amcinonide is a topical steroid. It is used to treat itching, redness and inflammation of the skin caused by conditions like:

  • Psoriasis
  • Allergic reaction
  • Eczema
  • Atopic dermatitis

Amcinonide is a potent medication. It works by preventing the release of substance in the body that causes inflammation, redness, itching and swelling. It belongs to the group of drug known as synthetic glucocorticoid receptor agonist that mimics the anti-inflammatory and metabolic activity of the natural glucocorticoids. It is FDA approved and is marketed now as an ointment, lotion and cream. Amcinonide cream may also be used for purposes as determined by your physician.

How to use Amcinonide?

Apply Amcinonide topically. Do not swallow this medication nor let it get into your eyes, nose and mouth. If this happens, rinse it off with clean water. Apply this cream 2 to 3 times a day. Use this medication for a maximum of 5 days on scalp, face and skin fold areas and 2 to 3 weeks on the body. Do not use this in a larger amount and longer than recommended.

Before applying this medication, wash and dry your hands. Clean and dry also the affected areas. After application, do not cover the treated areas or wrap it unless directed by your physician. If you are using this product in the diaper area of an infant, do not use diapers that are tight-fitting.

What are the side effects of Amcinonide?

Some of the common side effects are:

  • Skin rash
  • Acne
  • Crusting around the hair follicles
  • Increased hair growth
  • Irritation and skin dryness
  • Lightened color of treated skin
  • Itching and burning of treated skin

Stop using this topical medication and seek medical attention right away if you will experience:

  • Uneven heartbeat
  • Sleep problems
  • Tired feeling
  • Blurred vision
  • Severe skin irritation
  • Severer skin infections with signs like redness, swelling and oozing

Important Information

  • Do not use this medication if:
    • Fungal disease of the skin
    • You are allergic to its active ingredient
    • You have tuberculosis of the skin
    • You have untreated bacterial infections
  • Do not apply this medication to irritated skin around the mouth.
  • Amcinonide may interact with other topical corticosteroids.
  • Use this medication during pregnancy only when clearly needed.
  • Do not use this medication in treating skin problem that has not been checked by your physician.
  • Do not take this medication by mouth. Use it regularly to get the most benefit.
